What does the claims process involve?
The insurance company begins the process with a case assessment.
The insurance company then reviews your claim. Followed by the evaluation process, which may include inspecting injuries or vehicle damage. If approved your full resolution payment will begin, followed by the final step of closing your claim.
Am I required to receive more than 1 estimate?
No you are not. Your insurance company may advise you to get multiple estimates; you do not have to according to Minnesota law. You should never feel pressured to receive more than 1. Your insurance company may also advise having your vehicle repaired at their preferred shop; however you have the right to choose where you have your vehicle repaired.
Will my insurance pay for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM ) parts?
Yes they will. Your insurance company is required to pay to have your vehicle repaired to its previous condition, although they may suggest using “comparable” aftermarket parts. You do not have to agree to use aftermarket parts when having your vehicle repaired.
What if I disagree with my the appraisal amount?
The insurance company has two options if you disagree with the assessment. They can either pay for the repairs or offer you a cash settlement for the cost of repairs. Your insurance company is required to return your vehicle to the condition it was before the damage.
